The 4th Day of Christmas – Question 4
Having pasties for dinner Christmas Eve, standing around the piano singing while my Grandma played, later attending midnight mass at church with our family
Piling in the car Christmas Eve and riding around town looking at Christmas lights. Funny that my mother would always stay home and when we arrived back home, we always just missed Santa! Then the present opening began!
Waking up very early on Christmas morning to check out what Santa left under the tree!!
Getting up early to open presents and spending the day with all my cousins.

My favorite Christmas memory was piling into one room with my sisters on Christmas Eve for a sleep over while watching the never ending Christmas story. Then waking up nice and early to make sure mom and dad were awake to see what Santa brought!
Singing carols with my family waiting for Santa to come!
Caroling with church members around the community to spread cheer to the shut-ins l, extra family time, and of course traditional food.
Having all of the kids together. Making reindeer food with them and letting the kids put it out for the reindeer. We have pictures of every year.
I love and still love Christmas Eve. Getting ready for church and time with family and the anticipation of Christmas Day. Such good memories ?

Flocking the Christmas tree ?
My favorite Christmas tradition was the family spending a weekend together decorating the tree and house. We would then have another weekend just doing the Christmas cookie baking. Loved the togetherness.
Christmas morning was the one morning that my sister (much older) would cooperate with getting up early! We had to stay in bed until 6am after that all bets were off! Fun Fun Fun!!!

Going to church 9om Christmas Eve and then to my aunt’s house for a huge family gathering!
My favorite memory was Christmas Morning after opening presents my mom always made a special pastry that we got snack on until dinner was ready.
Going for a ride to see lights on Christmas Eve and arriving back to presents under the tree, we always “just missed” Santa!
My mother always made a special German torte for Christmas Eve.
Every morning on christmas we eat croissants after opening presents.
Going to my grandmas on Christmas Eve and seeing all my cousins. Santa clause would come and everyone would get a gift.❤️
My uncle used to dress up as Santa Claus every year when we would celebrate at my grandparents. He would call all of us by name and ask if we have been good this year. The anticipation of when he would arrive was so exciting!

I remember sleeping on the couch in front of the Christmas tree Christmas Eve . trying to catch Santa putting our presents under the tree. He must have been pretty sneaky because I never caught him.

Making reindeer food with my cousins! Oats, some carrots, sugar, and of course pounds of green and red glitter. We would run in the streets and in the yard spreading it everywhere to make sure Santa stopped by our house!
We used to drive to arizona every year at christmas time to visit my cousins. My mom, sister, brother and grandma made memories that to this day still bring a smile to my face.

My favorite memory as a child would have to be when my brother and I would sneak out of bed and snag a few Xmas cookies from time to time.
Going to Christmas Eve service at my Grandmother’s church and lighting the candles during the service.
I don’t really have a favorite from my childhood, but with my children it’s collaborating with our neighbors to find the perfect Christmas tree and then watching a Christmas movie and eating pizza while the tree “settles.” Followed by decorating and enjoying the lights.

I miss Christmas with all of my family!! Christmas was such a fun time with Grandparents and lot of relatives who are now deceased?My grandma used to make the best homemade pumpkin pies so I always looked forward to that and nice roasting fire too!!

I remember how the smell of the big feast my mother was making would fill the air. It was a small house but it didnt matter how many of us were they my mom always had enough room and food, we would eat, open presents, play cards, and go to midnight mass.

I remember trying to stay awake on Christmas Eve so I could catch santa dropping off the presents.would sneak downstairs to see if he had come yet.
My fondest memory was to walk to the woods, pulling a sled with my brothers and sisters, to find the perfect Christmas tree, cut it down and tie it to the sled. After throwing some snowballs at each other, we would walk back home to dry our clothes and enjoy a big cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows that our mom had waiting for us!
Having our own Christmas tree in our bedrooms decorated with our own ornaments. I’ve carried on the tradition with my children who also love it ?
I remember all the beautifully decorated christmas cookies and homemade candies my mom would make. Extended family would come over Christmas Eve we would visit and feast. It was always so nice getting together with everyone. Then Christmas morning we could open our presents.
We would have both my grandmas come over for the whole day and we would bake cookies. I think my love for baking started with this tradition. It was so much fun and I got to spend time with my family.
Going to church on Christmas Eve and coming home to see Santa had come when we were going. We were then allowed to open one Christmas present. As I got older I finally realized why my Mom always had contact problems as we were all in the car ready to go to church.?
Having everyone get up early to see what Santa left under the tree and trying to guess what everyone got.
I loved it when St Nick came before Christmas! My sisters and I would take the biggest black socks of my dads we could find and lay them on the couch before we went to bed. In the morning we always found so many treasures crammed in each sock! Great memories!
My mom would ALWAYS play the Kenny Rogers Christmas Greetings album starting December 1st nearly everyday until Christmas. It started with the vinyl record, then a cassette tape, and a cd and now it’s streaming… however you listen it’s just not Christmas until we hear Kenny!
Going to my grandparents and spending time with them. Like we say the good old days.
Pretty simple for me, it was going to church on Christmas Eve for the candlelight service. That’s it. Always loved that.
Christmas Eve mass, then coming home getting into pajamas and watching Christmas movies. Nice and relaxing until all chaos of Christmas Day begins.

The best is making the cookies with my mom, my sisters n alll our kids. We live eating them also. Loved having my grandma n grandpa over. They are no longer with us so we miss them every year!
I have so many special memories of Christmas with my family that I can’t pick just one. My parents did an amazing job keeping traditions – it was such a magical time and I have so many special memories of Christmas.
Visiting family. My i have a big family so lots of food and visiting.

Singing Christmas songs in church by candlelight and trying not to light our hair on fire (which was caked in hairspray for family photos afterwards).
My favorite memory was sitting in the front window of my grandparents flower shop at night while they worked on flowers for the next day. All the shops on 3rd street had great Christmas lights and window displays and I loved watching people shopping and laugh.
Singing Silent Night in church in German and we would light candles and they would turn down the lights so it was just the candles and the Christmas Tree lights in church. Which they still do but it was very cool as a child that my parents let me hold the candle :)
We always had a huge family dinner at Grandma’s on Christmas eve. Everyone bright all the gifts over there, and then santa came over to pass out all the gifts after dinner. I can still hear him walking down the stairs ringing his bells and shouting ho ho ho!

The German pickle Ornament!!! A pickle ornament is hidden on a Christmas tree, with the finder receiving good fortune for the following year! The kids get to open the first present but now that they are older it’s been adapted. LOVE this!
The FOOD!!!!! We always gather to eat a good meal.

Christmas Eve church service and when we got home there would be gifts and cookies everywhere. We had our immediate family Christmas at that time and extended family Christmas in the morning. Loved every moment spent with family.
Staying up late Christmas Eve having hot cocoa and watching a Christmas movie. My grandparents used to stay overnight and in the morning we would all open presents and have breakfast together. It was wonderful!

At 5 years-old, in the earlier morning hour, snugged up next to my 4 sisters and brother at the top of the stairs, waiting in great anticipation for my parents to call us down for our family Christmas celebration.
Both of my favorite Christmas pastimes involve Christmas music (no wonder I catch myself humming Christmas music all the time ? ) One being when I was a kid, we had two cassette tapes of Christmas music. My sisters and I would bake Christmas cookies with my dad and inevitably end up singing along to the tapes. The other one is going to my grandparents’ house and one of my aunts would play carols on the piano and the whole family would all sing along. My dad came from a family of 11 kids so we had quite the choir!

Playing the Mr. and Mrs. Left gift pass game was always a blast playing with the extended family! There was always one gift everyone would steal at the end. :)

Going down to my Grandma’s farm on Christmas Eve and seeing all of my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.
I grew up on a farm with 15 siblings. We had to wait on Christmas Eve until the boys were done with the farm chores. Then the whole family would gather, my brother-in-law would play Santa. On Christmas day everyone gathered again for the big Christmas dinner. We had to eat in shifts as there was so many of us. Memories I cherish everyday.
